Jewelry Care guide

Every piece of OH LITTLE FOXES jewelry is thoughtfully handcrafted in our Texas studio using traditional metalsmithing techniques, premium recycled metals, and carefully selected natural gemstones. With just a little care, your jewelry is designed to be worn often and treasured for years to come.

Because each piece is made by hand, subtle variations in texture, finish, and natural stone are part of its character and should be embraced as part of the handcrafted process.

Everyday Care

A few simple habits will help preserve the beauty of your jewelry for years to come.

  • Put on jewelry after applying lotions, perfumes, hairspray, or cosmetics.
  • Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, or cleaning.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to salt water, chlorine, harsh chemicals, and household cleaners.
  • Store each piece separately to prevent scratching and tangling.

Caring for Your Metals

Sterling silver, bronze, brass, and gold-filled metals naturally develop character over time.

  • Sterling silver may gradually develop a soft patina, which can be easily restored with a polishing cloth.
  • Bronze and brass naturally deepen in color over time. Each piece is finished with a protective jewelry-grade sealant to help slow oxidation and preserve its original warmth. While this finish will naturally wear with time and use, it provides lasting protection and can be refreshed when needed.
  • Gold-filled jewelry is exceptionally durable but benefits from gentle handling and regular cleaning.
  • Restore shine using a soft, non-abrasive polishing cloth.
  • Avoid abrasive or chemical cleaners unless they are specifically intended for fine jewelry.

Caring for Natural Gemstones

Every gemstone is unique, and each deserves a little extra care.

  • Avoid dropping jewelry or exposing stones to hard impacts.
  • Some gemstones are naturally softer than others and may scratch more easily.
  • Clean stones gently with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaners unless they are known to be safe for that specific gemstone.

Because every stone is naturally formed, slight variations in color, pattern, and inclusions are part of what make your piece one of a kind.

repairs and refresh

Jewelry is made to be enjoyed for years, and occasionally it may need a little extra care.

We offer repair and refresh services for many OH LITTLE FOXES pieces, including:

  • Light polishing and tarnish removal
  • Minor chain or component repairs (when possible)
  • Stone tightening or reset evaluation
  • Restoration of bronze and brass finishes, including reapplication of the protective sealant when appropriate
  • General restoration guidance

If your piece needs attention, simply reach out with photos, and we'll recommend the best course of action to help restore its beauty while preserving the integrity of the original design.

Storage

When you're not wearing your jewelry:

  • Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep each piece in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box.
  • Store pieces separately to help prevent scratches and tangling.

a note on patina

Jewelry is meant to be worn, and with wear comes character.

Soft scratches, gentle patina, and subtle changes in finish are part of the natural life of handcrafted jewelry and are not considered defects. Many collectors appreciate these changes as a reflection of the piece's story and the moments it has shared with its wearer.
